Supported Independent Living in Dubbo, Built Around Your Goals, Routine and Independence

Your home should feel like your home.

Supported Independent Living, commonly known as SIL, provides eligible NDIS participants with help completing everyday activities at home. The level and type of support can differ from person to person depending on their needs and NDIS plan.

For some participants, SIL may involve regular assistance throughout the day. Others may require help during particular routines, additional overnight support or assistance developing skills that make everyday life easier.

At Steadway, our approach to Supported Independent Living in Dubbo focuses on providing the right amount of support while encouraging participants to remain involved in their own decisions and daily routines.

Support may include assistance with personal care and daily routines, preparing meals, medication-related support, community access and more.

The goal is not simply to complete tasks for you. It is to provide practical support that helps you live with greater confidence, safety and independence.

SIL Disability Dubbo Support That Fits Your Life

There is no single SIL model that suits everyone. Your preferred routines, communication style, mobility, interests, goals and support requirements all matter when designing your services.

Before support begins, we take the time to understand questions such as:

What Does Independence Mean to You?

For one person, greater independence might mean learning to prepare meals.

For someone else, it could mean choosing their own daily routine, becoming more involved in household tasks or feeling confident accessing the Dubbo community.

What Support Do You Need at Home?

We look at when you need assistance and what type of support will help you feel comfortable and confident.

What Are Your Preferences?

You should feel comfortable with the people supporting you in your home. We consider personality, communication style, experience and participant preferences when building your team.

What Are Your Goals?

Your support should help you work towards the things that matter to you rather than simply maintaining the same routine indefinitely.

What Can SIL Support Include?

Our SIL disability Dubbo services can be tailored around the participant's approved supports and individual circumstances.

  • Personal Care. Support with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and other everyday personal routines where required.
  • Meal Preparation. Assistance with planning meals, preparing food and developing cooking skills.
  • Household Tasks. Support with laundry, cleaning, organising your living space and completing everyday household responsibilities.
  • Daily Living Skills. Our support workers can encourage you to become more involved in everyday activities and develop skills at a pace that works for you.
  • Appointments and Everyday Tasks. Support may include preparing for appointments, completing shopping and managing everyday routines.
  • Community Participation. SIL should support a life beyond the home. Where included in your supports, workers can help you access the Dubbo community, pursue interests and stay connected with the people and activities that matter to you.
  • Overnight Support. Participants with eligible support needs may require assistance overnight. The appropriate model will depend on the individual's NDIS plan and circumstances.

SIL Vacancies Dubbo

Looking for a SIL House in Dubbo?

If you are searching online for a SIL house Dubbo, it is important to understand that SIL relates primarily to the support you receive rather than the physical property itself.

You may receive SIL while living in:

  • Your existing home
  • A suitable shared home
  • Another appropriate rental arrangement
  • Specialist Disability Accommodation, where eligible

If you are also looking for accommodation, Steadway can discuss available or upcoming opportunities and help you understand whether the home and support model may suit your circumstances.

Supported Independent Living Housing Dubbo

Finding the right Supported Independent Living housing in Dubbo involves more than locating an available property.

The home needs to work for the person who will actually live there.

When exploring housing options, we encourage participants and their support networks to consider:

  • Accessibility. Can you comfortably move around the property and access the areas you use every day?
  • Location. Is the home close enough to the healthcare providers, family, shops and community activities that matter to you?
  • Your existing Church Street Dubbo material highlights proximity to places such as Dubbo Library, Dubbo Train Station, Victoria Park, the aquatic centre, TAFE NSW and the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
  • Support Arrangements. Does the property work with the type and level of support you require?
  • Housemate Compatibility. Where the arrangement involves shared living, compatibility between residents can be an important consideration.
  • Lifestyle. Does the home provide an environment where you can establish your own routines, interests and sense of independence?

How Our SIL Dubbo Service Works

Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) service in Dubbo starts with getting to know you. We take the time to understand your current situation, goals, preferences and support needs, while also looking at the relevant areas of your NDIS plan to discuss what type of support arrangement may suit you.

We then learn more about your everyday routine, including what a typical day looks like and where you may need assistance. From there, we work with you to develop a clear support plan that reflects your routines, preferences, goals and individual support requirements.

When building your support team, we consider factors such as worker experience, personality, availability, communication style and your personal preferences. Once your supports begin, your team provides assistance in line with the agreed plan. As your circumstances, goals or support needs change over time, we can review your supports with you and make adjustments where appropriate.

We support participants living with:

With a strong focus on consistency of care, accessible living, and long-term outcomes, Steadway is committed to helping participants feel supported, empowered, and truly at home within their SDA environment.

Smarter Support, Better Access to Information

Technology should make support easier to manage, not add another layer of complexity. Steadway’s NDIS support app gives participants a simple way to view upcoming supports, stay in touch with their team and keep track of services from their phone.

That focus also fits well with Newcastle’s wider push for more accessible information and services. The City of Newcastle’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan highlights the importance of improving access to digital information, mainstream services and technology, including accessible online systems and tools that help people navigate the community more independently.

You can also use our Will the NDIS Pay For It? tool to quickly check whether an item, service or support may be NDIS funded. If you would rather speak with someone, contact our team and we can help you work through your options.
