Support Services

Participants with Down syndrome experience different support needs throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Early supports may focus on skill development, communication, and building routines, while adult supports often prioritise independence, social connection, and community participation.

At Steadway, we deliver flexible NDIS support that adapts needs change. Whether someone is transitioning into adulthood, exploring work or volunteering opportunities, or focusing on independent living skills, our team provides practical assistance while respecting autonomy and personal preferences.

We also understand that many adults with Down syndrome want greater involvement in their community. Our NDIS supports help participants engage in social activities, attend programs, and build meaningful relationships, all while feeling safe and supported.

Down Syndrome and NDIS Eligibility

Down syndrome is recognised by the NDIS as a permanent intellectual disability. Because it is a lifelong condition that significantly impacts functional capacity, most individuals with Down syndrome meet the access requirements for the NDIS. In many cases, Down syndrome is listed under the NDIS List A conditions, meaning eligibility is generally met without the need for extensive additional functional assessments.

While eligibility is often straightforward, participants still need to provide medical evidence confirming the diagnosis and outlining how Down syndrome affects daily life. This may include reports from paediatricians, psychologists, or allied health professionals describing impacts on learning, communication, self-care, mobility, or social participation.

Once approved, NDIS funding for Down syndrome is designed to support both immediate needs and long-term development, helping participants build skills, maintain health, and increase independence across all stages of life.

How We Work

We start with a friendly call so you can speak directly with our team and share your goals, routines, and support needs. From there, we work within your approved NDIS funding to tailor services that fit your life, whether that’s personal support, community participation, or capacity-building assistance. We match you with the right support worker and stay connected to ensure your support remains flexible, reliable, and aligned with your goals.

Throughout your journey, we stay connected, communicate openly, and make adjustments when needed, so your support remains flexible, reliable, and focused on helping you live confidently and independently.

Working Alongside Families and NDIS Coordinators

Families play an important role in the lives of people with Down syndrome, and NDIS support coordinators are key partners in making sure supports are well planned and effectively delivered. We value strong, collaborative relationships and work closely with families and coordinators so that supports remain consistent, well-coordinated, and aligned with each participant’s goals.

Our team communicates openly and respectfully, providing reassurance that supports are delivered reliably and with care. By offering dependable services and a clear point of contact, we help reduce stress for families while always prioritising the participant’s voice, choices, and independence.

Real-Time Support at Your Fingertips

Managing support shouldn’t feel overwhelming. Missed shifts, unclear communication, and constant phone calls can quickly create unnecessary stress. At Steadway, we make support simpler. Our smart rostering tools and real-time communication keep participants informed, organised, and confidently in control of their care. We don’t just deliver support, we empower independence through technology that makes life easier, more streamlined, and genuinely personal.
