Brain Injury NDIS Services

Living with a brain injury can change many aspects of daily life, from physical movement and communication to memory, emotions, and independence. At Steadway, we provide compassionate, personalised NDIS services for people living with brain injury, supporting participants and families to rebuild confidence, capability, and quality of life.

Our role is to provide skilled disability support workers who understand the complexities of brain injury and work alongside you to support your goals, routines, and independence, whether you are newly diagnosed or further along your recovery journey.

Experienced NDIS Support Workers for Brain Injury

The right support worker can make a meaningful difference for someone living with a brain injury. Our disability support workers are NDIS registered, carefully selected and trained to understand the unique and often complex needs associated with brain injury.

Brain injury can affect memory, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour, and physical ability, sometimes all at once. Our support workers approach this with patience, consistency, and respect, adapting their support style to suit each participant’s abilities, routines, and triggers. We are aware that progress may be gradual and that stability and trust are just as important as practical assistance.

By working alongside participants, families, coordinators, and allied health professionals, we provide consistent, person-centred support that respects dignity, promotes capability, and supports long-term wellbeing for people living with brain injury.

NDIS Support for Brain Injury

Our team supports participants with everyday tasks such as personal care, household routines, and community access, while also helping to maintain structure, reduce fatigue, and manage changes in mood or concentration. For many participants, having the same familiar support worker builds confidence and reduces anxiety, which is especially important following a brain injury, may it be ABI or traumatic.

What Is Brain Injury and ABI Disability?

Brain injuries can occur in many ways and affect each person differently. An acquired brain injury, often referred to as an ABI, is any damage to the brain that happens after birth. This can include injury caused by stroke, infection, lack of oxygen, tumor, or trauma. The term ABI brain is commonly used to describe the condition itself, while ABI disability refers to the long-term functional impact the injury may have on a person’s life.

Another common form of brain injury is traumatic brain injury, or TBI. This could be from a number of causes such as car accidents, falls, sports injuries, or assaults. While ABI and TBI are often discussed together, the key difference lies in how the injury occurred, not in how seriously it can affect daily functioning.

There are many recognised brain damage types, ranging from mild to severe, and the effects can be physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioural.

Some people experience challenges with mobility, speech, memory, concentration, emotional regulation, or decision-making, while others may face a combination of these impacts. Because no two brain injuries are the same, support must always be individualised.

ABI and the NDIS

An ABI disability may be eligible for NDIS support if it is permanent or likely to be permanent and significantly impacts everyday functioning.

What conditions qualify for NDIS?

In general, the NDIS supports people with disabilities that affect their ability to participate in daily activities and community life, including brain injuries that result in long-term impairment.

Does NDIS cover TBI?

Yes, in many cases. Traumatic brain injuries can be funded under the NDIS when eligibility criteria are met. The same applies to non-traumatic ABI injuries such as stroke or brain infection, provided the condition causes ongoing functional limitations.

Once approved, NDIS funding can be used to access a range of supports focused on daily living, community participation, and independence.

Get in touch if you’d like to discuss your supports, or if you need help navigating the NDIS, understanding your funding, or adjusting your services as your needs change. Our team is here to guide you every step of the way, making the process clearer, simpler, and focused on what matters most to you.

How We Work: Brain Injury

We begin with a friendly, respectful conversation to understand how a brain injury affects your daily life. Your goals, routines, support needs, and where you are in your NDIS journey are central to shaping the support you receive.

Your approved NDIS funding is then used to build personalised supports that align with your priorities. This may include assistance with daily living, community access, behaviour and emotional regulation support, capacity-building, or support to rebuild skills and independence over time.

Next, we match you with experienced support workers who understand brain injury and the importance of consistency, structure, and trust. Communication remains open and ongoing, and supports are adjusted as your needs or goals change. Your support stays flexible, responsive, and focused on helping you live with confidence and independence.
