Top 3 Ways to do Supported Independent Living

Top 3 SIL Support Models

It is a common misconception that SIL has to be done as a group home and that clients don't have a proper chance to choose who they live with.

At Steadway, we believe there a more flexible ways to ensure you get to live with who you want and where you want.

For example, social housing can provide a more affordable way to have a place of your own.  Alternatively those with Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) can connect with an SDA provider through us, and some clients are able to remain living in the privacy of their own home

We offer SIL services across the following three categories for Supported Independent Living:

We have relationships with SDA providers across the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, and Newcastle for both existing vacancies and upcoming new developments.

Clients can live with their families under something called "Appendix H" (see the latest SDA Price Guide).

You can either ask us about Appendix H or your Support Coordinator.

We have relationships with clients in social housing, including connections with tenants coming through the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), which is now referred to as Homes NSW

When clients say they are going for "housing", this is typically either either Homes NSW, however there are three other key organisations to be aware of.

  1. Home in Place
  2. Pacific Link Housing
  3. Coast Shelter

We work with you to figure out which organisation might be best suited if you don't already have housing sorted out.

NDIS participants have the right to live in their own home, regardless of whether they own, rent, or reside in community housing. Access to Supported Independent Living (SIL) is not dependent on homeownership or rental status and can be provided in any suitable living arrangement.

If a participant can maintain their mortgage or rental payments, they are fully entitled to continue living in their own home while receiving SIL supports.

For example, some of our clients choose this option as it allows them to remain with their spouse and children, ensuring stability and continuity in their family life.

Here is how we are different:
